Final Project

Because of this class, there are two new words that I use EVERY day, not to mention a piece of equipment I use every day due to those two words. What are those words? Manual and Bracketing, and my equipment, well my camera of corse! These two words in combination with my camera have been the most valuable things I have gained form this class. Because of the requirement to do manual I was forced to learn how to get some control of my tool instead of it controlling me! I started of with shooting in "P" mode and by being sure to use my camera every day, slowly moved to "M". I never though I would see the day that I would say I will NEVER shoot in green mode again!! The other MAJOR tool that has contributed to allowing to me shoot manual is the technique of bracketing! Funny enough that was the assignment I found most difficult and yet I use it every time I turn my camera on! I have always had an interest for photography, but now find myself LOVING it! I carry my camera with me everywhere I go and am looking for every opportunity to use it. This has been a wonderful experience and I look forward to practice, practice, practice!!

And now for my final project. I dont have a sad story to tell, in fact mine is one that fills my life with so much joy its difficult to express. For as long as I can remember I have had a passion for horses. They inspire me when Im down, they show me honesty and courage. When I was a little girl my mom asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and my answer was of corse a horse. Here I have tried to portray the amazing roll and influence horses have played in my life as well as those I associate with.

So the Assignment below, it was a poser...... real Assignment #5

So originally I did this project by setting up four sessions with individuals just to get portraits. you can see that below if you would like, but this is my real assignment after spending some volunteer time today!!! I LOVE IT!!!! Thank goodness for volunteer work......cuz it saved me from my glamor shots!!

------- has RAD.....her story is full of Trauma from birth. Abandonment, abuse, neglect. Working to connect. Her Grandma is desperate to help her to trust, to feel loved and to allow her to feel safe. This was only her second session with the horses and therapist. By the time she was finished she was dizzy and confused because of all the cross neuron communication.

---------An amazing 50 year old man, who has learned to "wink" for the judges. He is autistic and just moved out from Seattle to live with his kind brother and his family who clearly love him! He didn't speak but used his hands, and frankly was easy to understand. He was sooo king and sweet, I instantly felt connected to him.

The truth is that I love portraits, but it was a challenge for me to get out of of doing "glamour Shots", and Im not sure I succeeded, but that being said I am happy with my work. I posted a little "add" on my face book to do a session for somone I didnt know and ended up shooting a girl named liz and her horse. Infact this session inspired what is going to be my final project. Ive been working on it with a new photo session almost every night for about a two weeks now. Anyway...I learned that when it comes to this kind of work, seeing really clear eyes, and feeling like you could guess who the person is just from one shot is oohhh so important!! I have some work to do, when it comes to the serious story telling kind of shot. I actually set up about six shoots with this assignment in mind and never really liked what I got, because of corse I was trying to "stage" the story. I even got one guy to pull his horse team and wagon out and do his cowboy thing, but unless I did candid shots, I felt like they looked set up. I Loved a lot of what I got, but in our lecture you specifically explained that these need to be people looking at the camera for an intend shot. The good news is I have a lot to learn, which mean more shooting!

Liz and I had such a fun time. The reason for our shoot was centered around Liz and her sweet horse. He is 24 now, but she got him when she was 14 as her first horse. She competed with him through training level in eventing and just this last year had to retire him due to a foot problem. She will soon have to have him euthanized as he is in a tremendous amount of pain, so she really want to capture her best bud in a few pictures. She said that if the perfect guy were out there, he would be just like her horse......only a horse lover would get that!!

This is megan. We did a little bridal shoot together and wow she was soo much fun to work with. If you look at this picture and see a girl that just beautiful, simple, and natural than you nailed this girl on the head. she had a little bit of mascara on for make-up and was wearing a borrowed dress. Talk about naturally beautiful!! we traveled all over Utah county and worked together for like four hours. we went from the fair in Lehi, to the freezing cold water in AF canyon!!!

Ass. #4 Color

Color is a complicated subject. I appreciated this assignment because it helped me to see the world in color. Of corse we see things in color, but I started to analyze the colors I was seeing and deciding where they landed on the color wheel and what relationship the colors had with each other. Im not sure the picture of my friend counts, but I felt like I saw several colors with in one theme. I feel like I need to do a redo on this assignment, Im not happy with what I did, so we may be seeing an Ass. 4 redo!!!

I haven't felt this Giddy since I met my husband!!!

Today I had the chance to assist a local photographer at a Sky Diver and Air Craft event. It was really neat to have slight idea how to set my camera up in manual and comprehend direction that was given to me thanks to class. I had the pleasure of operating a Canon 5dMk2 with a 400mm 2.8 lens, and a Canon 1DMk3 with an 800mm 2.8 lens. Truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to use equipment like this!!! I only a a few of my images at this point, but here they are!! YAHOOOOOOOO!!!

Assignment # 2-The Numbers Game

This was a great assignment. I was really scared at first because we were shooting in manual and no retakes, but I quickly learned to pay better attention to light!!! I felt like the black and white was very forgiving, and brought more solitude to some of the photos. I had fun caring my camera everywhere I went, from taking pictures of beer bottles at Wall Mart (99 bottles of beer on the wall) to asking the girl at Baskin Robins to pose for me with my ice cream cone. So fun!!!
